San Juan del Sur has played host to some exciting events in the last few weeks. Musicfest Nicaragua 2008 was held at the newly remodeled sports park and boardwalk along the rejuvenated waterfront.

Local and international artists played to a mixed crowd of foreigners, Nicaraguan tourists and San Juanenos. The event coincided with Arts in the Park where artisans from the entire country had their works on display in the recently rebuilt park in front of the cathedral.

San Juan del Sur also hosted volleyball teams from Butler and Florida Atlantic University for a few friendly matches with local players and the Nicaraguan National Volleyball team. The event was a huge success with players exchanging bumps and spikes on the court and sharing cultures off the court.
